Which Dynamics 365 User Groups Are Worth Joining? Here’s the Map

Where D365 finance and system owners meet, compare pain points, and share how they fixed them.

A former client asked me a good question recently: does Dynamics 365 have the kind of user group they used to have with their old finance system? The sort where a handful of similar organisations meet, compare pain points, and share how they solved them.

The short answer is yes, though they’re built a little differently. D365’s communities are organised mostly by product and by region rather than by narrow sector, so you won’t always find a group ring-fenced to your exact industry. What you will find is a lot of people running the same processes you do, and most are happy to compare notes. Here’s the map.

The best reason to join is simple. Someone in these groups has probably already hit the problem landing on your desk this month, and they’ll usually tell you how they dealt with it. You also get early sight of release-wave changes before they reach your environment, and nearly all of it is free.

Where the peer conversations actually happen

The Finance & Supply Chain (F&O) user group on Dynamic Communities is the closest thing to a home for F&O finance owners. Dynamic Communities also runs the regional Learners platform, which helps you find a local group by product and location, and there are sister groups for Business Central, Customer Experience (CRM) and Power Platform if your estate spans more than one app.

Dynamics User Group (DUG) is the other big independent community. It’s free to join, has over 50,000 members, and gives you discussion forums, year-round webinars and local meetups. Between them, these two organisations run most of the independent activity in this space.

In the UK, in person

For UK teams, the UK Dynamics 365 & Power Platform User Group is the one I’d point you to first. It runs free, in-person meetings across London, Manchester, Birmingham, Reading and other regions, plus virtual sessions. The full calendar is on Meetup, and it’s the easiest way to sit in a room with people solving the same problems you are.

Microsoft’s own communities (your answers layer)

Microsoft runs the official side, and it’s free. The Dynamics 365 Community is the hub for questions and blogs, with an active Finance forum and a user groups and events directory to find a group near you. Microsoft Learn is the canonical source for how Finance actually works, and it’s where I’d verify anything before acting on forum advice. If your processes lean on Power Automate or Copilot, the Microsoft Power Platform Community and the broader Microsoft Tech Community cover that ground.

Straight to the product group: Viva Engage

There’s one more Microsoft channel worth joining, and it’s the closest you’ll get to the engineering team. Microsoft runs Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations communities on Viva Engage, where the product group posts previews, runs feedback sessions and answers questions directly. The subgroups map to exactly the areas a finance team cares about, with communities for cash, banking and payments, accounts receivable, invoice capture, F&O with Power Platform, and more.

Microsoft labels these “partner communities,” but they’re open to customers too. The one condition is that they sit under the preview and early-access programme, so you join by requesting access rather than just clicking in. Start with Microsoft’s guide to joining the Dynamics 365 Viva Engage communities, then complete the Finance & Operations Viva Engage access request form and pick the communities you want.

If you like hearing about features before they land in your environment, this is the single most useful place to be.

The big in-person events (2026)

Worth putting one in the calendar for deeper learning and networking:

• DynamicsCon — 12–15 May, Las Vegas. Run by DUG. Paid, in-person. Covers F&O, Business Central, CE and Power Platform.
• Community Summit North America — 11–15 October, Nashville. Run by Dynamic Communities. One of the largest independent Microsoft business-applications conferences, with a dedicated Public Sector Day and strong F&O finance content.
• UK D365 & Power Platform User Group — year-round, free, across the UK and online.
• Directions EMEA — 27–29 October, Paris. Strong event, but aimed at partners and ISVs rather than end customers, so it’s the odd one out here.
• European community conferences such as DynamicsMinds and the European BizApps Summit also run each spring if you want a mainland-Europe option.

What about a group just for your sector?

If you were hoping for a group ring-fenced to your industry, that’s worth raising directly with Microsoft. The public D365 communities are organised by product and region, not by narrow sector, so you won’t usually find a sector-only group among them.

Your Microsoft account manager is the person to ask: Microsoft sometimes runs private, invitation-only groups in Viva Engage for specific industries. I’ve seen one for housing, so it’s worth asking what exists for yours. If nothing sector-specific is available, the nearest routes are the F&O user group, your regional UK meetup, and the public-sector tracks at Community Summit. In practice, that’s usually enough to find the handful of peers wrestling with what you’re wrestling with.

Where I’d start

Join the Dynamics 365 Community and DUG today, both free. Follow the UK user group for a meeting near you. Request access to the Finance & Operations Viva Engage communities if you want a direct line to the product group. And if you can travel, put either DynamicsCon in May or Community Summit in October on the calendar. That alone plugs you into the people who’ll save you a support ticket or two.
